John Haver - Provincial Coach North

John started rowing at the Saskatoon Rowing club in 1997 when he was 12 years old.  He was on the provincial rowing team from 1999-2002.  John was the “fill-in” Provincial Coach for the competitive season of 2003 when he was 19.  After 2003, John spent four years on the National team where he competed as a lightweight.  John competed at three U23 World Rowing Championships, he placed 3rd in 2004 and 2005 in the Lightweight Double and 9th in 2006 in the lightweight four.  

In 2007, John competed in the Lightweight Double (5th) and the Lightweight Four (1st) at the Pan Am Games in Rio, Brazil.   John’s experience coaching has been molded largely from the coaches he has had/trained under in the past.  Rob Currie, Bob Haver, Chuck McDiarmid, Mike Spracklin, Patrick Newman, and Bent Jensen have all contributed to John’s coaching style and he draws on each experience to create his own coaching style/philosophy.  

John’s role at the Saskatoon Rowing club is to coach Junior competitive rowing, including training and selection of provincial teams.  John also provides training and programs and technical feedback to the Senior and Master rowers. John (with the support of seasonal staff) organizes all away regattas and the Head of the South Saskatchewan in September.

Most recently, John was awarded Coach of the Year from both the Rowing Canada and SaskSport for 2015.


Lauren Ritchie - Club Coach

Lauren joined the Saskatoon Rowing Club in the spring of 2010. Coached by John Haver, she competed as a junior high performance athlete until fall 2013, having represented Team Saskatchewan twice and earning a silver medal at Canada Summer Games 2013 in the Women's 4-.


More recently, Lauren has begun her coaching certifications through Rowing Canada. This is her second summer coaching at the Saskatoon Rowing Club. Outside of rowing, she is completing a degree in Kinesiology.

Lauren looks forward to spending this summer in a new role as Club Coach and working with a variety of Saskatoon Rowing Club athletes.


Liam Cattet - Novice Coach

Liam has been a member of the High Performance Junior Rowing Team since 2014. He bowed several boats to victory including Gold Medals in Men’s Double and Men’s Quad event at the Alberta open regatta in 2015 and 2016. Liam bowed the Saskatchewan Men’s Quad and the Men’s Double as well as stroked the Men’s eight at the 2015 Western Canada Games.

Liam has been coaching our Learn To Row program and is now leading our Novice program.
